One of the best things about living in the Willamette Valley is how quickly the community comes alive this time of year. The quieter months give way to markets, concerts, festivals, and neighborhood gatherings that seem to pop up everywhere.

The challenge isn't finding something to do, it's choosing what makes the cut. We've tried to make that decision a little easier, just scroll on!

🎉 Oregon summer festival season just kicked off

The Gist: June marks the start of a massive summer event season across the Willamette Valley, packed with parades, carnivals, and cultural celebrations. Neighborly staples like Ginnie Sandoval’s roundup highlight a busy 2026 lineup, including the Salem Pride Parade on June 13, and the multi-day World Beat Festival starting June 26. The fun stretches all the way into September, featuring everything from the historic Woodburn Fiesta Mexicana to Weird Al Yankovic headlining the Oregon State Fair.
Why It Matters: These local gatherings are the heartbeat of our community, giving us a perfect excuse to catch up with neighbors and celebrate the valley's incredibly rich cultural roots.
🐾 Salem opens a park made for every pup
The Gist: The City of Salem opened a new two-zone dog park at Geer Park. The space features a Gentle Zone for quiet or smaller dogs and an Active Zone for high-energy pets, complete with double-gated entries, shade trees, and easy-reach water bowls. A new reservable picnic shelter is also opening next to the park for small gatherings and community use.
Why It Matters: The two-zone setup helps quiet or smaller dogs and high-energy pups each have a better park experience. With paved paths, shade, water bowls, and covered seating, the new space is also easier and more comfortable for owners to use.
