One of the best parts of summer in Salem is how easy it is to find something new to do. You can spend the morning exploring a neighborhood walk, the afternoon at a festival, and the evening listening to live music downtown.

This week’s lineup has a little bit of everything, including a few local food finds that might make your Fourth of July plans much easier!

🌴 Salem's World Beat Festival returns

The Gist: Salem’s largest multicultural party of the year brings 125 performances and the traditions of 70 cultures to Riverfront Park from June 26 to June 28. This year spotlights Pacific Islanders from Samoa, Chuuk, and Hawaii, with Friday night kicking off with fire dancing and music from 5 to 10pm.

Why It Matters: It’s a beautiful chance to learn from our neighbors, celebrate what makes Oregon special, and spend a summer weekend by the river together.

What’s Next: Things officially begin Friday, June 26 at 5pm at the Amphitheater, followed by the Children’s Parade on Saturday morning at 9:45am.

🏗️ The project that finally wakes up Salem's Riverfront?

The Gist: The old cannery site on Front Street, just up from Riverfront Park, is slated to become The Cannery, a major mixed-use riverfront development planned to roll out in phases with a blend of housing, commercial space, and public areas.

Why It Matters: It’s one of the most ambitious attempts yet to reconnect downtown with the Willamette, right beside the park where Salem gathers all summer long.

🥩 Slow smoked for this season’s spreads

1210 State St, Salem

The neighborhood's favorite Adam's Rib Smoke House has your upcoming refueling needs entirely handled. Since 2003, they have been perfecting Santa Maria-style tri-tip and brisket that practically melts.

For the Fourth and the rest of summer, they are packing up bulk orders of smoked meats, sweet poquito beans, and red potato salad for the backyard. Pick up your feast, reheat just before the big celebration, and take all the credit. 😎

🍓 Red, white, and blue by the flat

5682 Silverton Rd NE #3813, Salem

Need that perfect splash of red on your table? The Nanneman Farms Fruit Stand has been supplying local kitchens from their Salem fields since 1959! Their summer stand is fully stocked with fresh raspberries, Duke blueberries, and Mary’s Peak strawberries.

Their famous Freedom Flat packages a colorful mix of berries and sweet cherries. Grab a crate soon!
